Argentina  Betting Tips – Copa Libertadores: Week 1

Welcome to another column covering the Argentine league. In this edition we’ll try to give you some detailed insight regarding some of the most interesting upcoming games, so you can be more informed to place your bets. Let us know how you like this format! As always, thanks for reading!

This week sees the start of the COPA LIBERTADORES, the most important competition on the continent and the one that obsesses the top clubs with their quest for glory. In this edition of the Copa there will be six Argentinian teams, and in the following report we will take a look at the matches that await them and what we expect to see.

Colon Santa Fe (Arg) vs Penarol (Uru)

Colon is a team that has been very relevant the last few years in the Argentine tournament, having won the league in 2021. This year has started very regularly for them, with high and low points. They started with victories in the first games of the season, but have not been able to get one in the last three games they have played. It has been many years since Colon last played in such an important international competition so it will be a huge challenge for them, and it will be very difficult to prove that they are up to the task. Against them we have Penarol, the most important team in Uruguay, and always a tough opponent. What we can expect is undoubtedly a very physical and very tight game, we can foresee a draw or a win for Colon, taking into account that they are playing at home and it is a game they have been preparing for a long time.

Dep. Cali (Col) vs Boca Juniors (Arg)

What can we say about Boca, they are a very bipolar team, one week they show us a great style of play and the next week they disappoint again. Last weekend they tied against a weak Arsenal 2-2. On the other hand Deportivo Cali is in the last positions of the Colombian tournament, so they will not represent a big threat for the Argentinian club. Being used to Boca disappointing us, it is difficult to make a prediction for this match, however we think that Boca are still the favourites and although we could be in for a surprise, they are the candidates to win the match.

Talleres Cordoba (Arg) vs U. Catolica (Chi)

Talleres were the revelation team of the previous season, surprising everyone with an extraordinary level, however in the off season they have sold many key pieces in the team, which has directly affected their game. They started this tournament in a disappointing way, winning only one out of eight games played. On the other hand we have U. Catolica, who came from being just one step away from relegation to the second division last season and although they started off a little better this year, they lost 4 of their last 5 games. This will be one of the weakest games of the round, we can expect that by playing at home and coming with a slightly better level Talleres will take the victory, although we would not be surprised to see a draw.

Alianza Lima (Per) vs River Plate (Arg)

Everyone knows that River are an unstoppable force, they have just beaten the strong team of Defensa y Justicia in a thrilling match, and are as always at the top of the table. On the other hand, Alianza Lima is at the bottom of the Peruvian league table. Although it is always difficult to play away in Peru, we believe that River will have no difficulty to win against Alianza.

Estudiantes (Arg) vs Velez Sarsfield (Arg

The match that closes the Copa Libertadores week is the only one that faces two Argentinian teams. Estudiantes, who come first in the table and who have proven to be a very reliable team and know how to adapt to the style of play that their coach tells them to adopt. On the other side is Velez, who are coming off the back of a 3-1 win over Lanus last weekend, and have shown that firing their coach two weeks ago was the right move. They are two very good teams and no doubt it will be a great spectacle, for the level they have been showing, the candidate to win is Estudiantes.
